Nex appointed by the Strawberry Hill Trust

In November 2026, Strawberry Hill Trust appointed Nex to prepare a development plan and visitor experience feasibility study for Strawberry Hill House and Garden in Twickenham. Horace Walpole built the house between 1747 and 1792 as his home and a setting for his collection. The house is listed at Grade I and its garden is registered at Grade II*.

A 2010 restoration returned the house and its interior lighting as closely as practical to Walpole’s description of 1784, for occasional guided visits. The Trust now runs the house as an Accredited museum, and growing visitor numbers are testing its capacity. Our study will examine ways to enhance the visitor experience, improve exhibition facilities and strengthen the long-term resilience of the house and garden, while protecting their fabric and significance.

We will work with Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, who will consider the future of the gardens, and with Equals, who will cost the development options. Our findings will be presented to the Trust’s Board in 2027.
